Use Custom Launcher on Chromecast With Google TV (1-Click no Button Mapper needed!)

A custom launcher on your Chromecast with Google TV will allow you customise exactly what you see on the home screen. You can also change the wallpaper, add widgets and more!

Steps

Firstly we need to enable the option to install from unknown sources

Click Settings

Click System

Click About

Click Android TV OS build 7 times until you see a message that Developer Options have been enabled

Go back up and open Developer Options

Ensure that USB Debugging is enabled

Go back up until you see the Apps menu item, click that

Click Security & Restrictions

Push the right arrow to move to the right side of the screen where apps are located

Turn on unknown sources for the Downloader app

Software Needed

TDUK CCGTV Launcher Manager

Wolf Launcher for Chromecast Google TV

Remote ADB Shell (Only needed for widgets)

Install TDUK CCGTV Launcher manager and Wolf Launcher from the above links.

Open the Launcher Manager

Notice the Active Launcher is LauncherX which is the stock Launcher

Click on Disable Stock Launcher




You will then see

Click on Always allow and then Allow

We can see the Active Launcher now says Wolf

Press the home key




You will now see the Wolf launcher.

How to enable widgets

Use Remote ADB shell on your device to make a connection.

once connected enter in the following command

appwidget grantbind --package com.wolf.gtvlauncher --user 0

You can now install some applications (Weather / clock etc) that support widgets. The one used in my video is from Aptoide TV:

How to go back to default launcher




Open up Launcher Manager and select “Enable Stock Launcher”

Press the home key and you will see
