Pluto TV, a Viacom company, is the leading free streaming television service in America, delivering 200+ live and original channels and thousands of on-demand movies in partnership with major TV networks, movie studios, publishers, and digital media companies.
Pluto TV had its first rollout outside of the US in October 2018 when it launched in the UK on NOW TV and Roku devices with 13 curated live TV channels. Since launch, Pluto TV has expanded rapidly in the UK where it currently is additionally available on Amazon Fire TV and tablets, iOS, Android, and Samsung TV Plus. Tubi is a streaming service, with a twist: It’s free. IMDb was already the home for some video content, including trailers, celebrity interviews and short-form original series such as The IMDb Show, Casting Calls, and No Small Parts. These are now being bundled into Freedive, says the company, and will remain free to watch.
IMDB TV
IMDb is short for the Internet Movie Database, a glorious online encyclopedia for TV shows and movies that offers everything from cast breakdowns to ratings, fan reviews, and production details for pretty much every title you might want to Google. The site has more than 5 million titles in its database. While it originally operated as a fan-operated site, not unlike Wikipedia, it’s been an Amazon subsidiary since 1998.
Launched in early January 2019, IMDb TV is a free ad-supported service for streaming movies and TV shows in the U.S. It operates as a channel on Fire devices—Fire Stick, Fire TV Cube, Fire tablets, etc.—or if you’re a laptop or personal computer user, you can stream directly from the IMDb site.
Sling
Dish-owned TV streaming service Sling TV announced today it’s making a selection of its content available to stream for free, no credit card or account required. The free offering includes breaking news and live events from ABC News Live, movies and kids’ content for families and other lifestyle and entertainment programming. The new service arrives at a time when a significant number of Americans are stuck at home due to the COVID-19 outbreak. But Sling TV isn’t just hoping for a little good press — it’s also marketing its paid service to the free users by promoting content that’s labeled as being only available to subscribers.
Sony Crackle
Sony Crackle is an ad-supported video streaming service, that makes movies, TV shows and original web shows. It means that the service is free and no subscription fee is required, but you do have to watch ads when streaming.
Formerly known as simply Crackle, the service is backed by Sony since January 2018 and has partnerships with Columbia Pictures, Fox Digital, Lionsgate, MGM and many more. Sony-distributed television series like Rescue Me and Seinfeld can be streamed here. Sony Crackle creates its original programs like Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee and Extraction, a full length movie.
Documentary Films
Since January 2007, TDF has been curating awesome documentaries and it’s been a host to a vibrant community of people who’re making this place even more interesting.
Obviously the content here is created with a passion for documentary films and the site is a valuable resource for those with an interest in that particular genre. It also tries to help the independent documentary filmmakers to promote their films.
TDF started as a simple one-man blog and to some extent it still is. However, at this point there are three moderators taking care of the community comment section and a few ghostwriters writing the synopses for the documentaries.
In a relatively short period of time the site became very powerful alternative educational resource and a very busy place – thanks to the visitors (1.5 million people every month) who obviously like it.
